Crowdfund London

  • Nesta recently conducted a piece of impact research and advocacy work for Greater London Authority, which evaluated the Crowdfund London programme. Crowdfund London provides matched grant funding to civic projects such as community spaces, art pieces and gardens that raise money from the public through crowdfunding.
  • The identity for the research is community-focussed and centred around friendly, hand-drawn illustrations of people working together. Combined with a fresh colour palette and simple typography the identity is celebratory and optimistic.
  • We created a 100 page report of the research findings that was made up of infographics, illustrations, case studies, data and photography. The report was summarised into a digestible highlights pamphlet and supported by a suite of social media assets.
Nearly 20,000 Londoners have been involved, raising £4.85 million for 130 local projects, making it one of the longest-running and largest initiatives of its kind in the world.

  •     - 77% of those involved feel more empowered as a result of crowdfunding for their project.
  •     - 72% of projects said the experience increased community cohesion.
  •     - 86% of projects said that this process significantly improved the skills of members of the team.
  •     - 65% of projects funded things that could not be funded elsewhere.
  •     - 73% of project leaders had plans to start another community project in future.

  • “It was really important that the design conveyed both the motivations for the programme and the key insights that came from the evaluation. The colourful and playful style captures the experimentation that Crowdfund London has facilitated and the illustrated figures throughout highlight how the programme really is about people, and helping them come together to make a difference in their communities.”
